The Student Direct Stream is a faster and more efficient way to apply for a Canadian study visa. The SDS program serves residents of seven countries: China, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Philippines, Senegal, Vietnam, Antigua &Barbuda, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, St. Kitts, Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago). IRCC aims to complete processing of SDS study permit applications within 20 calendar days.

Requirements of SDS Program

To qualify for a Canadian study permit through SDS, prospective applicants must be or have been:

  • A person who lives in one of the countries listed in Asia or Africa.
  • An official letter of acceptance (LOAs) from a Designated Education Institution (DEI) in Canada.
  • A confirmation letter for the applicant’ s upfront medical exam.
  • A guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) of 10,000 Canadian dollars.
  • Proof of payment of the tuition fees for one year of study.
  • You must provide evidence that they either completed studies in a Canadian curriculum high school (or equivalent) or show evidence of a language test results indicating an IELTS score between 6 and 7 in English or NCLB 7 for French.
  • Apply for a visa at a Visa Application Centre.

You’ll receive an official letter of introduction from Citizenship and Immigration Canada and a temporary resident visa allowing you to enter Canada. A POE (Point of Entry) letter is an official document from IRCC which proves that you have been approved for a study permit. It is presented to a visa office when you arrive in Canada. You must be a citizen of one of the countries mentioned above at the time of applying.
